We take pride in listening to the local people on the ground in the areas where we operate hunts in. Paying attention to how they live and learning from them what their specific development requirements might be. This has put us in a position where Ondjou Safaris has some of the longest relationships with community conservancies in Namibia.
Ondjou Safaris has completed a long list of support projects and activities for local communities. These projects include the following:
- Clearing litter along tourist routes, schools or just in and around local villages
- Drilling and equipping water wells
- Erecting a dormitory for a local school that can house 60 kids
All of this has been made possible only by clients choosing Ondjou and Van Heerden Safaris to be their outfitter in Namibia. We are extremely thankful for our clients support and putting their trust in us to do well with their hard earned money.
On a regular basis we educate children from the community about our concept and teach them about the importance of hunting and natural conservation. We explain about the different species that live in the area and that can be hunted. On these educational days we always offer a lunch in the camp and go on a boat ride or game drive.
The San (Bushman) belong to the poorest communities in Namibia. As members of an original Hunter-Gatherers community, the San often find it difficult to adapt to the modern world. We often support San communities in our hunting concessions with donations that we collect from our friends and hunters. Food, clothing, shoes and school books are some of the donations that are always very welcome.
